Since the announcement of our show, I have been asked a lot of questions regarding my experiences with it. I want to respond today to the most frequently asked questions.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta is a series that follow five glamorous Atlanta women and their families as they balance motherhood, demanding careers and a fast-paced social calendar. The show is a fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the lives of Atlanta’s social set. The series is schedule to premier on October 7, 2008 on Bravo and will be seven episodes.

I think this series is different from its predecessors, Real Housewives of Orange County and Real Housewives of New York. The basic difference is that we are very different people and driven by very different goals. Much of that can be attributed to the difference between New York, California, and Atlanta. Atlanta is the cultural and societal Mecca for affluent African Americans in the U.S and it is a cosmopolitan city. Additionally, we are a multi-racial cast. Having not been affiliated with the other two shows (each show is independently produced), we bring a new perspective to the Bravo line up.

It definitely was an experience having the cameras follow me around all the time. We filmed for approximately 3 months. There were 5 camera crews and we pretty much had someone with us everyday. At first it was a little awkward for me but after the first week, I was used to it. The kids didn’t seem to mind it at all. They have a lot of experience being in front of the cameras, although not to this extent. My husband was playing ball in Cleveland and wasn’t home as much. He would come home on average 1 day a week. He didn’t particularly care for the cameras but knew it was something that was part of my life. I think my family, friends, and staff, were surprisingly excited about it. I have to say though, toward the end of the 3 months, we all were getting a little tired of the camera crew!

NeNe Leakes referred me to one of the producers. I interviewed and did not make the cut (initially). Filming did not start as planned and when they got ready to film, one year later, they called me back and I made it. This was just another example of God doing things on His time schedule. I am a totally different person, spiritually and mentally, than I was a year ago. I was motivated to do the show for several reasons but the most important were to use it as a platform to get exposure for my non-profit organization, DeShawn Snow Foundation, to dispel the stereotypes athlete’s wives don’t do anything but shop and are gold diggers, and I thought it would be fun and a great experience.

During filming, I was my true authentic self and it was such a positive experience. So to me it was a snapshot of my life, kind of like living a photo album. I can’t control how people are going to perceive me. People will see that I am a high achiever, with high expectations, and I expect nothing less. And that comes from working really hard and being a survivor. People will see me at my worst and my best, and it will definitely be a learning experience to see how I come across to others.

I think people will be intrigued by the lifestyle, which is why they will want to watch the show. I am truly blessed. But there are plenty of other things people will be able to relate to such as:

  • My husband traveled the majority of the time, so in a sense, I was like a single mom
  • Audience will certainly be able to relate to me trying to achieve a balance between family, motherhood, and work.

Between the five of us, I definitely think people would be able to relate or inspire to be like one of us.

Finally, the million-dollar question! Do we all get along? We are 5 dynamic women with strong personalities and demanding careers. And when you get 5 women together, no matter whom they are, you will find a difference of opinions. That is what makes each of us unique and that is real life. But at the end of the day, we all admire and respect one another…. and with that comes a special bond. We are like sisters and this experience has definitely brought us closer together as a group.

Re: You truly have made the Show worth watching

I just wanted to say that I love the show and I totally admire you in particular because of how you have presented yourself and your family. I feel like you truly have set the bar for how wives of professional athletes SHOULD take their blessings and be a blessing to others. So often people are quick to forget how they got where they are and don't realize that everything is ordained by God and not my mistake. I constantly have to remind my fiance of this because I don't want him to forget that God Favors us for a divine purpose and just as quick as its here, and can be all gone. Just recently I relocated to Cleveland ,Ohio to be with my fiance who plays professional football for the Browns (we too have been together since our Freshman year in college, and going on 6 years in December) and the only thing that has been on my mind since I have been here is how I don't want to fall under the misconception that NFL or NBA wives don't have degress (which my degree is in PR) but are gold diggers and just shop all day because to me that is so superficial and seeing you shows me that there are some women behind these men that are strong, Godly, Giving and respectfull women who don't just care about themselves and truly want to make a difference. Mrs. Snow you truly are inspiring to me and I hope one day I can also be a blessing to young women as you have been and even though I've only been in about a Month, I hope I too can get invovled in our community here in Cleveland or perhaps with other wives on the team with similar interest and religious beliefs because like you, I don't want to live outside of God's will and I know that this lifestyle will eat you up and spit you out if you and your family don't have God first and I truly desire to be a Godly mother and Wife to husband.

Good Luck with you career!,

Lacey

Re: Questions about the TV Show

Deshawn, you are my favorite housewife. When I laid eyes on you I said to myself..."I don't know what it is, but I like her!
There's something about her, something in her spirit that sends out that positive aura...and It doesn't matter what people say! I think God has blessed you tremendously and you are doing your part by giving back to these young women. You don't need to worry about these miserable folks questioning your life or judging you. I think you are doing a fabulous job!
I researched you as soon as I had the opportunity. Now I had no idea what you were involved in, but when I went online and saw your foundation, the confirmation was made! I said to myself there was a good reason for me liking you.
I was an english teacher and dean at a high school in Queens, NYC. So I was around teenagers and hormones everyday.
I too, became a mentor to many of them before I left, and til this day, they still call me at home and drive me crazy when they see me in the street! It does my heart good to know that i've touched someone in a special way, or I was there for them when they needed support. Keep on doing whtat you're doing and my God's blessing continue to flow you, Mr. Snow
and the babies!;)

Re: Questions about the TV Show

I wrote in the career-life purpose section, my questions, but to touch again on your fundraising for the girls, have another and this time don't make it so personal, do not have at your home, and only invite(right now) the who's who becuse you are trying to raise a lot of money in a small amount of time, then have another one and add a few others in, your first must be an invitation only and you must have freinds who will support you, some of them should have started the bidding, neenee did her part by helping but not those other housewifes. my question I guess is will you give up? I hope not, you are a beautiful person with GOD on your side, it will all work out.

Re: Questions about the TV Show

Good Evening DeShawn,

I watched your show for the first time last evening and I was very moved by your desire to inspire young girls. I especially loved that you set a very high bar (the episode I watched had you aking for a million dollars for your foundation) for yourself and you were not deterred by the naysayers.

Additionally, I have to admit that I admire you husband. I loved Eric when he played for the SIXER'S (I live in PA). What I respected most about him, when he joined the SIXER'S, was that he did not have tattoos (none that were visible) and his low hair cut, not to mention his sensiblity in the league. He seems to very supportive and it is wonderful to see your family postivley represented. Keep on glowing.

I pray you see continued growth

Re: Questions about the TV Show

Deshawn, I admire you being the person you are. You remind me of myself in a lot of ways. I didn't know of your Foundation until I saw the show. It was a blesssing to me, because I've been researching to start a Foundation to support girls and boys ages 10-17 , especially Fostercare children be able to participate in activities in or out of school. Their are a lot of talented children that a are n't able to seek their dreams because their family isn't financially able to afford the things they need. Their are children not able to participae in educational curriculum to help them be successful also.

Re: Questions about the TV Show

DeShawn I loved you on the show. I also liked Lisa and NeNe. I believed you stayed out of mess and made the best out of every situation. I love this website. I placed a help question in your love and relationship section. My daughter asked me why did I do that but, I felt such love and genuine warmth from this web page. I can't even explain it but everyone seems positive and I trusted that I would get a good reply. And I did. Thank You very much I feel as if I found a new sistserhood to help guide me to find myself and must of all God. I am relocating to Atlanta in the next few months and maybe I will meet you one day or atleast find your foundation and volunteer. You are truly an inspiration.
