Spirituality
Spirituality is a big part of who I am today. As I mentioned on our welcome page, my life was empty although it appeared I had it all. That is until I took a trip to the Holy Land with my Bishop and First Lady. The trip was timely and life changing! I realized that the life I lived is not what Jesus paid the price for.
Now don’t get me wrong, I grew up in the church. I was baptized with my husband in 2003 and again in the Jordan River in Israel. I was no stranger to Christ. I knew that when things went wrong, He was the person to call on. However, I did not have an intimate relationship with Him. I would seek His hands and not His face. As you know, God is intimate. He is a master lover. Nothing is conceived with God without intimacy.

Believe for big and God will give you the supernatural.
When I returned from my trip, all of that changed. I was on fire! I went to Bible study and church every week and, when I wasn’t in town, I would catch the sermon on the Internet via streamingfaith.com. I listened very closely to the message the man of God was delivering. It was always relevant to me at the time. I studied the Word everyday. It was suggested to me to read one of the modern translations (New International Version) for an easier read. My prayer life was enriched and I intentionally made a decision to try to surrender to God’s will daily. My entire outlook on life changed.
I realized that my life is not about me, but about me advancing the kingdom. What I had planned fit the world and what God has planned for me, fits the kingdom. I recognize my authority and accept my humility. Grace is greater than all sin. When he exposed my “stuff”, he covered me in grace.
I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. There is stuff that I cannot see that I am getting ready for. The prophets are speaking it into the atmosphere. I am just a vessel, and I try to be a walking manifestation of the invisible God. I truly believe God has given me a national platform as a stepping stone to have influence in the lives of nations.
Please understand. I am not claiming to be holier than thou, nor am I claiming to know it all. In fact, all of my newfound knowledge and understanding was taught to me by my spiritual father, Bishop Eddie L. Long (Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church). I am just taking what I learned, applying it to my life, and sharing it with you. My prayer is that you can become just as excited as I am to experience the unconditional love of God.
Never lose sight of the fact that God is in control of your life. You must believe that God can deliver you. You need to put fear and doubt out of the way and believe in God. Faith works whenever there is faithfulness and obedience. Walking in obedience is difficult but necessary. Faith always requires some action and is understood to be boundless and timeless. Get rid of the fear and doubt by receiving the love of Jesus Christ.
Giving Back
Luke 12:48 (NKJ) says “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”
I’ve always known it was important to give back. I was the beneficiary of kindness when I was younger, and once I had the opportunity to impact the lives of others, it was a no-brainer. My husband and I are both very active in the community. We even get the boys involved. Each of us has our own non-profit organizations. Eric’s is Shoot 4 the Moon and mine is the DeShawn Snow Foundation. We understand fully that we are blessed to be a blessing. We strive to be rich in a way that is pleasing to God and we hope to bless generations. This is another reason I know that if we continue to be obedient, He will continue to bless us — He knows our hearts.
The great thing about giving back is that I ultimately end up helping myself more than I do the people I am providing the service to. It is almost as though I am healing my soul – especially with the young girls I help with my foundation. If you ever find yourself feeling emotionally low, I challenge each of you to volunteer at your local hospital, shelter, nursing home, etc. This is a great way of getting outside of your own pain for a while, and it encourages someone else at the same time.
Another way to give back is through your tithes and offering. Everything we own belongs to God. We are stewards of all that God entrusts us with. His trust includes money, our gifts and abilities, our minds and intellect, our bodies, and how we use our time.
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all.
Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. (1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NKJV)
We honor God with our tenth and maintain our covenant by obediently giving to God by faith. We are saying, “I trust in You; I believe in You; You are the Most High God, the possessor of heaven and earth.”
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this” says the Lord of hosts. (Malachi 3:10a)
Tithe is ten percent of all your income (i.e. if your gross salary is $500 per week, your tithe would be $50 per week). This is “tithing from the top”, which is the “gross income—not net.” God expects us to be cheerful givers (2 Corinthians 9:6-15; Philippians 4:19). He wants us to give out of our relationship with Him. He has a special joy when we trust Him to supply our need.
It’s all about the Law of the Harvest. What you give out is what you will receive in return. You need to sow what you want to reap the most; place a demand on your seed (better health, increase in bank account, promotion on job). If you don’t like where you are, sow where you want to go. Don’t ever sow what you don’t want. Your seed must take root and develop a root system. Get rid of the roots of bitterness so that they do not come up and choke you. Also, sow privately and you will get rewarded openly.
There is a seed time and there is a harvest time. Galatians 6:7-9 (NKJ) says” Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38)
Offering is an amount above the tithe that you give. Typically there are three: regular seed offerings, covenant partners, and love offerings.
- Seed offerings are used to take care of the needs of the church.
- Covenant offerings are totally dedicated for eliminating the debt. (Exodus 35:21)
- The love offering is an offering we give to the man of God (Senior Pastor) that is above our tithe and regular offering.
This offering is also a seed that is planted in the pastor’s life so that he will be able to take care of and provide for his personal needs and those of the family. It is one aspect of giving honor when honor is due. (Romans 13:7; 1 Timothy 5:17; 1 Corinthians 9:9-14) Some pastors receive this in lieu of a salary.
First fruit is an offering that goes to the Priest (Senior Pastor). We give a first fruit when we receive an increase or the first fruit of the promise of God. First fruit giving causes a blessing to rest on your business affairs. (Proverbs 3:9; Ezekiel 44:30)

Celebrating this, the 10th year of a business I began without much money or faith in others that it would succeed. I have been overjoyed with the many blessings of the people who have supported me, lifted me up with their faith in my chosen profession and have built wonderful and long lasting relationships with women and families. It goes far beyond the taking of a portrait, these last 10 years and the preceding 8 years while learning the craft, has enriched mine and my family's life beyond measure. I still get shivers when I put the key in the door to open the business each day. It was time for me to express my gratitude in one of the only ways I know how... With a portrait to someone who would not normally have the means to hire the services offered. We kicked off our 10th year Anniversary with a special portrait tribute to the women who have supported me and a grand soiree. The vocalist who entertained our guests that evening is a strong and dynamic young woman who filled the air with the most angelic voice and pleased all of us to no end. At the party's end, I remembered I had not tipped her and the musician. I invited her to have lunch with me and heard her story... Married to her high school sweetheart with 3 lovely children and managing it all while tying to enjoy her singing career as well. It was at that moment that God spoke to my heart and I knew a tip, simply would not do. I invited she and her family to have a portrait session as a gift from my heart to give back in some way to represent everyone who has supported me. The session was fabulous as she and her husband decided to have portraits taken as a couple and they loved them. My business mind, put a limit on what I was willing to give, but watching their faces as they viewed their images and handing them Kleenex to wipe the tears as they huddled together gave way to my heart and I knew their is no limit on true GIVING. They accepted the offer of an album of 12 images and a Wall portrait for their home. When they left. one of my staff members commented that I was "crazy" for making such a generous gift. I immediately pointed to her that I have always moved through life from my heart and it has served me well. To just give of the heart and not worry about who knows, how much it costs, without seeking glory for one's self, rather, to make someone else just feel good about life is a joy you simply cannot buy. I explained that living from the heart means following the whispers that God puts in our ears which come through the heart. One need not worry about the repercussions of living your life this way. It is the way it is supposed to be. Throughout this year I have made sure to do something for each of my long time clients as a thank you, but this particular family will enjoy this portrait and the fun memories of the session with fondness for many years. I just know this to be true. I decided to meet with my staff right then and explain how I never question what God whispers to me and I would appreciate them learning to do the same in their own lives. " When you give, I said, "you enrich your own life ten-fold." I left work that day feeling lifted and so grateful. I went into my home office and opened my e-mails and there, right in front of me was a request in an email for a new and sizeable portrait order. It was God whispering that I had what I had done was good and right and DeShawn, I would like to thank you and Eric for sharing in this particular Blessing of giving to this young couple. Because the order I received that day, was from you. God is good. Be still. Listen. He comes most times in a whisper. Peace to all Jocelyn |

As long as I can remember I have been a child of god..mostly because of my beautiful , loving grandmother. She raised me for most of my life and made so...so many sacrafices to make sure that I even had the basic needs. She has always been there for me...and I will always love her. My grandmother has so many people that love her the entire church that she attened for over 40years think of her as there grandmother...I dont mind...she has enough love to go around. when she was younger she would watch the neighbor kids until there parents would come home from work. even when there parent were home they would still come to see her...they would just drop by to say hi. Now ny grandmother is 86 years old (just had a birthday) and she is unable to move around, eat, or bathe without assistance and she is slowing slipping away from this life. but because of her unselfish love she has made me into the person I an today. I spend time with young adults and give them work in my business. I feel that it is important to help guide young people in a positive way and positive direction...Its my thoughts and loving memories of my grandmother tht guide and inspire me to give back... I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU GRANDMA (MRS. MARCENA WASHBURN). Marshawn Wallace |

The lord has been so good to me, it was a must that I give back to others and to my society. I was a victim of sexually abuse and I felt the need to join the women's crisis centre for abused and batteed women. Latter on my Church and members of my church sponsored all payments for my AA degree and books. I then worked partime and bless each one with gifts as I graduated. Also I helped others with small donations and housing facility at my house while going to college. It is my passion to help women young or old and I believe I am doing this in a small way. I give over and over to staff, freinds, church members, family members, sometimes even strangers. Time, money, clothes, shoes, a ride, encouragement, support, advise anything that I can be useful of I give. I do this out of love and obedience to God. As I look back over my life and see how others gave to me I always wanted to give back to someelse. The bible says it is better to give than recieve. Lets look at Jesus fro example, when he was on earth every time Jesus went into a city or town he would usually feed the poor, heal the sick, peform miracles and help even if it was just a verse of scriputure. This is a principle we should all follow if we say we love him and have a relationship with him. The fruits of the spirit is what we should possess if we serve the lord (meeknees, humbleness, kindness, love, etc) It is goal of mines to sponpser a student full College tution. I have not gotten there yet because of funds but it will be a goal I meet before I pass on. Mrs Snow I enjoy the show very much, and I really wanted to find a web sites like yours where I can talk and share with other women and specially about God. I am telling other women to get connected and to watch your show in the Bahamas. I love what you do and to keep up the good works. May god bless you and your family. |

I don't know actually how or if I have ever really given back. All I know is that I love doing what I do. I work with at- risk youth, I mentor and mother-figure to many young women in my life. So I can't say if that's giving back because it's not a sacrifice, its what I do enjoy about my life. I am still seeking this part from God. Its funny I know God will do anything for me...as my grandmother says "He can do anything but fail"....I gave my life to Him innocently as a child and I took it back as an adult and now I want to give my life back to Him, but I am whole heartly speaking I am scared. I know that it sounds funny but or maybe your thinking I shouldn't say things like that but I don't know how else to put it. It's like when you go to a resturant that has pictures of food on the menu most people tend to order what they see...but somehow when I go to resturants doesn't have the pictures I trust the description of what it is and I am very confident in it. I know all this seems way off base from the initial question |

Hello, I am truly enjoying the show. When I saw you I instanly connected with you, its your Spirit. Then when I found out that you were involved with our Youth. I SAID YEP GOD THATS IT!!! Thats the connection! LOL I started a Youth group at my home in 2006 with about 13-15 gurls. We would discuss things that went on in their lives such as school, bullies, parents, rules, responsibilites at home, accountabillity, everything!!! We would meet at my house every 2 Sundays from 3-6. I would have pizza paities for them, we had a bowling party, hotel party, but after a while my group went from 15- over 30 gurls!!! I was blessed, and excited that so many gurls wanted to come and be a part of what my Vision was, but then it got over whelming. It was too many for me. I never knew that it was going to grow so fast, and be such a blessing to so many gurls. So I quit the meetings. I feel so bad that I * dissed* the gurls, and you know it has been on my mind heavy ever since. God kept on at me about it. LOL I just love him because no matter what I do, these gurls just keep coming back to me. They call me, I see the parents, they come by, my nieces and my daughter ask me * when are you starting the group back up Auntie*?. LOL So I prayed about it and prayed about it, and then I got sick * just a bad cold*. God always know how to get my attention. He said for me to regroup, plan, wirte goals, and expectiations, take my time, do it right. So I went out and bought planners, books on Teens, work books, everything. Went on line and read everything I can google! And I have been doing my thang, getting this together. Im so excited. This time it just seems so right. This has been in my heart for years and years and years and years. My only child * daughter* is in her last year at Wayne State University, and she knows momma is not going to be happy unitl this is off the ground. I think , eat and breathe these Teens. Im happy to say next year, I will be ready to open up my home again!!! I am sooooooooooooo happy to have found this site. You don't know how Im feeling right now. Thank you Deshawn. Lcrease |

First and foremost I would like to praise DeShawn for her amazing work she is doing for young adults. You are so motivated, discipline, focused & dedicated to your mission.
I have a passion to Enhance, Empower & Enlighten familes to Financial Independence.
I teach and mentor families for ways to produce income (six figures) outside of their current income stream. I ask God everyday for favor to bless individuals with this opportunity. God's dream and promise for us is to live life abundantly. Everyday we should have a thriving mentality combined with excellence and integrity.
A DREAM without ACTION is a FANTASY!!!
We are all winners and champions so let's start acting like it. EACH ONE, TEACH ONE and we will all have ECONOMIC FREEDOM!!!
DeShawn, keep up the good work

It is so great to read all the comments posted i have the spirit of giving and it is something that is just in me i am there if someone needs to talk. I am the type of person that will give my last to someone it a feeling that i can't describe. Once upon of time my children and I were homeless and it was a really hard time i rememer asking people to help us out on the streets and it was people total strangers that would buy us food and put us up for the night. I am saying all this to say now that GOD has seen fit for me to be in a better place i make it my business to help out the less fortunate because i hve been there before. I will not forget where i come from and it is only threw GOD grace and mercy that i am where im at in life now and each day i give him all the prais. |

I give back in my church by becoming a children church teacher, and step in anytime the pastor needs me. I give to sister care to help abuse women. I give to anyone who is in need. I feel if I have it, they have it. I hate to see people suffering. I am the type of person, who would give my last if it will save another person life. I am truly a cheerful giver and I don't expect anything in return. I am known to have a heart of gold, in which my husband considered the heart of platimum. My husband says I care about everyone and he feel people should do the same in my time of need. I always tell him God takes care of me, to make sure I will not lack anything. I always believe he may not come when you want him, but he is always on time. I'm a true believer. |

Greetings all, I don't truly know where to begin because much like Quita, I am not sure if I am giving back so maybe you all can help me! I am a Police Sargeant on a College campus in Decatur. I felt the need to come here, to this space to begin a healing process. In doing so I found a Community of people who refuse to accept failure. My mission was to create awareness of dating violence, empower College womyn to find their voice and complete my degree. Well, I am an upcoming Junior and I feel the students are sick of me talking about sexual assualt, dating violence and accountability! In my ten years here, I have coordinated several programs, had countless chats (off the record), been a shoulder to cry on and taught self defense classes. Three years ago I found my passion and I feel as though I am not doing enough. I began learning about seual exploitation and human trafficking of young girls. Now ya'll I hit the ground running. I have put together fundraisers, hosted a small conference and even worked with some wonderful people in the City of Atlanta. I am going a mile a minute and now I am at a stand still and it's killing me. Why? Because I know I am Blessed to be a Blessing and right now I am not doing what I need to be doing. My grandmother raised me for most of my younger years and it is through her that I know my heart is filled with the Spirit of giving. She too would give her last if it meant someone else could prosper another day. Tooblessedtobestressed , your last words was my grammy's motto "He may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time." I am honored to be in this space with so many wonderful Spirits. GOd is good all the time.... |

In 2004 I lost my mother to Cancer. My mom was my best friend and she had a heart of gold. She always told me that I was a lot like her in many ways but I didn't believe it besides, at that time what child wants to believe that they are just like thier parents.
Anyway, after she past I took on taking care of my uncle (her younger brother) who had had a terrible left sided stroke just a year prior. The family tried to encourage me to let him go to a nursing home but since I was a Director at a nursing home and I see the people there that have no family, I just did not have the heart to do that to my own family so I said no and brought my uncle to live with my children and I.
I am so glad that I did this because my uncle is doing so well. He is always happy, he can do more things on his own now and just having my kids (his great neice and nephews) around truly makes a big difference in his quality of life because he is surrounded by family that loves him.
Well just when I thought my heart was full, I had another uncle this past June that had a stroke. This time it was my mom's oldest brother. Again family did not want to take him in and wanted him to go to a veterans home but I said no to that of course. Well, I didn't know exactly how I was going to do it but with God I knew that he would make a way for me to have both brothers... my uncles here with me if that is what was ment to be.
So I started my home search and was blessed with a 7 bedroom home. Yes, I need every inch of space because I am a mother with 4 children of my own. Now we are all packing and waiting for the closing day so that we all can be together. My uncle that is coming to stay with us is so happy. He was skeptical at first because of course family don't want to be a bother but as a Child of God and simply because of who I am as a person, this was truly the right thing to do. I can't throw my family a way, they are part of me and they deserve a good quality of life for as long as they live. They both had a 50% chance at living but they made it through this.
So I gave back not wanting anything in return but honestly I feel that the quality of life that they will now have and the joy my children will have learning and listening to the stories that thier great uncles will tell them... is truly wonderful! |

You know, I thought about this a little bit before I started to respond and I what I can say is that I've given back when the opportunity has presented itself, but I don't know that's I've chased down opportunities, which is something that I feel that I need to do. I have participated in events via school (Michigan State University - environmental clean-up), work (Habitat for Humanity via Lowe's - building homes) and church (New Birth - outreach program for homeless in Atlanta), but I feel like I need to chase down something that will provide a continuous meaning of fulfillment of giving back...not just an event. I'm not in the financial postion to take on much, but my heart is always ready to help others in need. DeShawn, I have done some research on you and your foundation and I am VERY impressed, not only with what you have accomplished, but with your heart. You are a blessing...even to me at this moment, you are inspiring me to stop waiting on the opportunity to present itself but to go out and find the opportunity. Thank you! |

Mrs. Snow You are a blessing... You have inspired me everyday now since watching the show. My Husband also notice a change in ME. (smiling) Yes...I have always givin back. One that I remember most was, Mentoring and Nuturing a few young girls in my neighborhood, who didnt have a Father around. I welcomed them into my home before and after school. My Husband and I both saw that it was important for them to experience The Family Values they so much needed. I thank GOD, I was able to help them. I have also given to the homeless and others in need. Giving is what I do, and I LOVE IT!! Peace N Luv Ja Merykah |

We have been blessed by adoption. I'm especially an advocate for transracial domestic adoption. Hubby and I each have our own businesses and we are starting a yearly fund to gift those trying to raise funds to adopt. I also like to send people little surprises via the mail, my blog has introduced me to some neat women all over the world. I think I try to give back by my daily demeanor and having a listening ear when people need me. I started out my professional life as a volunteer coordinator and I LOVED it. I'd like to eventually volunteer my services in that area again. |

I came to learn of you and your organization by watching the housewives of Atlanta. and I was deeply moved. I have been working with the youth of my church teaching them about abstaining and developing healthy mind, body, and souls for Christ. In the process we are putting on a play, that i wrote, and we are going to have a purity ceremony which i will go through the process of the ceremony with them. To teach them that it is never to late to get it right and it is never to late to give your life to God. Being a minister and working with the Youth of my church i am working now to take this program i am developing into the communities and schools to teach young people that One choice can change your life for the better or worse. becuase we only have One Life. |

how have I given back? Wow what I loaded question. I'm still learning. Learning who I am and what my purpose may be. Life for me has been interesting. But whatever I went through has brought me to where I am today and for that I am more than grateful. I'm new to the church, so I'm still finding that part of me, I'm a mom with 3 BEAUTIFUL daughters, a wife with a wonderful husband. I am active at school with my children, I help out at their dance class. I'm giving every part of me in anyway I know to give. What brought me to church? Well I realized I wasn't living the life that He wanted for me. I like who I am I just wanted to be a better me and a nagging feeling kept telling me I needed to be at church. I have thrown myself into it completely. I am also a part of a business that firmly believes in: God first, Family 2, and Career 3rd. Being a part of this has enriched my life in more ways than I can express, so it's not a matter of how have I given back, it's more a matter of who believed in me and gave me well..... me. Thank you for reading : ) God Bless Ya'll!!
